Rogue Beard Beer
Rogue Beard Beer is anĀ American Wild Ale… and I mean really wild! From the bottle: …brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s beard… John has had the same old growth beard since 1978, so it’s no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. I have to admit the idea of brewing/drinking this is really gross to me, but my curiosity got the best of me when I saw this in Florida. So this beard yeast is pretty active, the cap came off aggressively and the foam started creeping towards the top of the bottle right away. This is a pretty looking beer, light golden color and obviously a nice big head. This is a decent Belgian Golden type beer, a little sweet and fruity, and yes yeasty. (Thankfully this doesn’t taste like beard, at least I don’t think it does) The bottom line is this is a quirky novelty beer that thankfully doesn’t taste terrible. Worth a shot if you can get past the mental anguish!
