Stone Spröcketbier Black Rye Kölsch

Stone Spröcketbier Black Rye Kölsch is a part of the Spotlight Series. I have to admit I was rather skeptical about this one. In fact if I didn’t have the beerstreak going I might have passed on this one, just seemed like a strange style mash-up. I am, however, pleasantly surprised by this beer.

This pours a pretty black color like you would expect, nice and fluffy tan head. Pretty much looking just like your average Black IPA. That is pretty much what it tastes like too, a Black IPA but without the often overbearing bitterness/harshness. I’m enjoying a good roasted malt flavor complimented by some coffee, a little chocolate and a touch of spicy rye. Smooth and easy to drink at 5.4% ABV as well. Glad I took a chance, this was pretty good!
