I should have had a general idea that this beer would be different from tasting the Collaboration Not Litigation Ale they made with Russian River. But, I don’t always do my beer drinking homework and was caught by surprise.
The 9% alcohol is apparent and was predominant in my tasting notes. White grape and a dry resinous quality also add to the beer’s overall flavor mix. The alcohol contributes to a slight astringency.
I was inspired to check this beer out after reading an overview of the brewing strategy behind Salvation in the book Craft Beer for the Homebrewer: Recipes from America’s Top Brewmasters. Let’s just say that my attempt to recreate this beer from the partial mash instructions included in the book did not turn out as well as the real thing.
