Sierra Nevada/Russian River Brux Domesticated Wild Ale
Brux Domesticated Wild Ale is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Russian River. These two highly regarded breweries created is a Belgian style ale re-fermented with Brett. Released in mid 2012, aged about 1 1/2 years. I got a small sample of this when it first showed up here in Savannah and all I could think was that it need time to develop. Our recent event involving Sierra Nevada seemed like the right time to break this out and share it.
The smell is very encouraging, getting that lactic sourness you get from most sours. The taste, although good, is a major letdown from the nose. The wild ale truly has been domesticated. The taste is dry and fruity, lots of pears and apples. There is a touch of funk, but man I was hoping this would have developed at least a little more.
In the end this was still very enjoyable, and I have no regrets after holding onto this for the past year and a half or so!
