Wedge Brewing Company Payne’s Pale Ale
Truth be told I’m not the biggest Pale Ale fan anymore. There is nothing wrong with the style, but unless a beer has a great reputation it’s usually one of the last beers I’ll choose. That was the case with Wedge Brewing Company Payne’s Pale AleĀ as well, pretty much went with this for our last round since the ABV was relatively low. Turns out this is a pretty solid beer!
The looks and smells like your typical American Pale Ale, good marks on both. The taste starts kind of bready, which I like in a Pale, along with a surprising chunk of citrus. The citrus was very unexpected and enjoyable. The finish brought a flavor I can only describe as “generic melon”. Also unexpected but unique and enjoyable.
It might be unfair to even review this at the end of a long day of drinking at the source, but I love it when I find a great beer in a non go to style!
