Against The Grain The Brown Note
Against The Grain The Brown Note is an American Brown Ale. Without a doubt one of the single worst label art designs ever put on a bottle. (I will save the description, you can see the picture for yourself) Big thanks to Josiah for bringing this to our bottle share, I’m not sure I would have picked one up myself. Not just because of the art either, but because brown ales are just not a style I go to very often.
The pour is a typical for the style, brown but not super dark. The taste is really quite nice. Good roasted malts and rather nutty as well. Getting some more subtle notes of hazelnuts and toffee, with a splash of medium roast coffee towards the finish. That coffee lingers well into the aftertaste which I really like as well.
I can add this to my short list of impressive Brown Ales, but seriously guys, that label is horrible. Maybe they really wanted to push the envelope, but you would think a brewery this good would want people to talk about the BEER in the bottle.
