Against The Grain All Funked Up Wild Series
BDR friend Josiah brought these two bottles of Against The Grain All Funked Up Wild Series beers to a (not so) little tasting we had fairly recently. Apparently this is a rotating series, with several different versions of the Five Roses: A Rick Astley Joint alone. So here’s a two-fer review of the two we sampled, thanks Josiah!
Five Roses: A Rick Astley Joint – According the the bottle this is a Wild Kolsch Aged in Red Cypress. I have to be honest, I really don’t have a ton to say about this, I didn’t know what to expect, but I guess it was something more. There is a mild tartness and some smokiness, other than that it is a highly drinkable Kolsch.
Scorched Monk – This beer was a collaboration with Struise. Described as a Sour Mash Smoked Brown Ale aged in French Oak. This smells like smoked tart cherries, if there is such a thing? The taste is also moderately sour and smokey, a very odd combo. This is without a doubt a unique, and enjoyable, drinking experience!
