Westbrook / Stillwater Artisanal Big Tasty’s Back Door
Big Tasty’s Back Door is a remix of Stillwater Artisanal Cellar Door Saison created by Westbrook. The description is as follows: A number of herbs and spices known for their therapeutic properties are added to “expand the cleansing aspect of the white sage” in the original recipe. Then, at bottling, they add “brettanomyces bruxellensis for a funky complexity that will develop over time.”
This one has lots and lots of herbal spiciness. The beer basically tastes like sage, tyme and rosemary. Somehow that isn’t overwhelming, and it’s in fact complimented by a perfect sweetness. The brett is adding a bit of funkiness on the finish that I am enjoying, and I suspect that funk will grow with time.
I had my doubts about this one, but it ended up being rather enjoyable. I had no trouble polishing off the 32 oz growler while reading at the beach.
