One Block At A Time – Week Four
I’ve tried many methods to kick start a regular running routine, but the only thing that really seems to work is what I call the “one block at a time” method. I plan to run 3 times a week, and go 1 block further each time. Simple as that. (Except I know myself, and it will never be as simple as that) Without a mini goal in mind, I just have a hard time committing to running. I hope that this weekly blog will help me to not quit this time, and maybe finally get into better shape! Who knows, maybe it will help motivate you too.
Monday 11/3/14 Didn’t get to run today, which is disappointing. We spent the weekend in Virginia and Emily and I had planned to go out for a run before we left. Unfortunately our plans were changed slightly, and we ended up staying in a hotel off the highway instead of with family on Sunday night. Not the end of the world, but I was looking forward to running with Emily which is something I never get to do. Got to make sure I run tomorrow, but that isn’t not going to be easy after 513 miles driving in the car today.
DAY TEN: Tuesday 11/4/14 Good run today, but 4 days in-between runs is a bit too much. It was a struggle, but it really felt good to head out with as much enthusiasm as I had. In the past missing a day of running was just the hiccup needed to derail the whole running adventure. Proud that I didn’t let the unavoidable events of yesterday send me down the laziness rabbit hole. One more block.
DAY ELEVEN: Thursday 11/6/14 I saw not one, but three separate car accidents on my usually quiet morning run today. I’m afraid that was an omen for things to come. My lower body feels like it was in one of those accidents. I would by no means call what I did today a good run, I was sore and stiff pretty much the whole way. Knees and shins were not feeling good. (I’ve been having a little knee pain when not running too, I hope that goes away soon) The less determined me would have never pushed through today, but all could could think about instead of quitting was all the people about to run 13.1 and 26.2 in just a couple of days here in Savannah. Honestly loser, you can go one more block!
I hope next week gets better, this one was kind of a bust.
