Allagash Dubbel Ale
Allagash Dubbel AleĀ is one of those beers I was shocked to find I’ve never tried. How could that be?
Beautiful appearance, a soft off white head over a deep red and slightly brownish colored beer. The aroma is great and only improves as it warms, rich caramel, maple syrup, candi sugar and hints of raisins. I am also enjoying the taste, it starts on the sweet side with caramel, candi sugar, raisins and figs. The Belgian yeast kicks in adding a slightly tart note. It’s almost green apple-like in flavor which I wasn’t really expecting. The finish is a bit earthy and with a bit of dry wood blending with all the sweetness.
I’m really enjoying this. Looks great, tastes great, feels great. I guess I think it’s a great American made Belgian style Dubbel!
