Central Waters La Petite Mort
Central Waters La Petite Mort is a Weizenbock aged in bourbon barrels with Belgian ale yeast. I found a bottle of this collaboration with Local Option in November of 2014, opened in January of 2015.
This is an outstanding display of what bourbon barrel aging can do to a beer, and how it can take it over. The barrel aging has totally removed just about all of the characteristics of a Weizenbock. There is a good bit of the dark fruity flavor you might expect from the style, but lets be honest, this is all about the bourbon barrel. Super tasty, but it really lacks any big complexity. Figs and raisins, bourbon and a little vanilla caramel type thing. That is about it on both the taste and aroma.
I’m not complaining. Not only is it this is delicious, but it was the perfect pairing with a rainy 50 degree January day in Savannah!
