Left Hand Fade To Black Volume 1 – Foreign Export Stout
I was really excited to see that Left Hand Fade To Black Volume 1 was brewed again, it was the one in the series I never got a chance to try.
The color is an exceptionally dark brown (almost black), and the beer started with a fluffy tan two finger head. The aroma is amazing on this, sweet and roasty with a great nuttiness. Getting that sweetness on the taste to start, it then fades away into a strong roast that borders on char. I’m also tasting some coffee, a mocha like coffee, and little bit of dark fruit. There is a rather acidic hop bitterness on the finish, but when it warms up that morphs into a little black licorice. Some fairly strong alcohol heat comes out on the finish as well.
This is a really solid Stout. I’ve enjoyed the other four Fade To Black volumes, but at least for me, this one is clearly the best of the lot.
