Southbound The Reaper
Southbound The Reaper is a Belgian style Quadrupel aged on raspberries and cocoa nibs provided by local Savannah chocolatier Adam Turoni.
I picked up a couple of bottles of this but first had it on draft. The pour I got was ridiculously to the top of a shaker pint, but this amazing beer survived the dreadful pour and glassware choice. The smell is a great combination of raspberries and raisins, with the raisins really cutting the raspberries a good bit making it work for me. The taste is rather complex, starting with big raspberries, a good bit of dry bakers chocolate, some generic dark fruits, and a hint of smoke. I’m getting lots of berry and booze on the finish.
I’m thoroughly impressed with this beer now, but I think I’ll be sitting on a bottle or two as well.
