Abita Bourbon Street Baltic Porter
Abita Bourbon Street Baltic Porter is aged “100%” in Bourbon Barrels, 9.25% ABV. (I have to say I find the “100%” on the label a bit odd. I tend to assume my craft beer is “100%” unless “otherwise” stated)
The beer pours with a nice brownish/caramel color with some slight red hues, nowhere near the extreme dark brown color of a typical Baltic Porter. The aroma is good, caramel and bourbon, a good dose of vanilla as well. The taste on the other hand takes this to another level. Rich caramel, vanilla, bourbon, oak barrel and a hint of maple syrup. I had no idea this was this good when I took a chance on a bottle. In fact his beer reminds me of my favorite beer, Founders Backwoods Bastard. It isn’t nearly as complex, but the taste profile overall is very similar. The edges are a bit rougher, but this is really almost as good!
At around $11 for a 22 ounce bottle you loose the value you get with most Abita brands, but the reward is the best Abita beer I’ve had to date.
