The Rare Barrel Another World
The Rare Barrel Another World is a Red Sour beer aged in oak barrels. It is fermented with two strains of Brettanomyces yeast and two strains of Lactobacillus.
This pours with a very murky brown color. Not the best looking beer, but I am not too bothered by that at this point. The aroma is huge on the sour, lots of big vinegar and lacto sourness leading me to expect a super intense sour ale. The taste is very pleasant actually. Sure it is really tart, but it isn’t nearly as intense as the nose would lead you to expect. The Lactobacillus is the dominate yeast to me, lots of that type of sourness. There is a nice bit of fruitiness behind all that sour as well. I’m getting some cherry, a little raspberry, and some light sweet strawberry on the finish.
This is not the type of thing that is easy to get a hold of, so I can’t thank BDR friend Matt L. for sharing this from his recent trip to California!
