Upland Brewing Dantalion
Upland Brewing Dantalion is an American Wild Ale. There is not a whole lot of information on the bottle about this one, pretty much just says it’s a Dark Wild Ale. The Upland Brewing website is much more helpful: …based on the Oud Bruin beer style… Dantalion has hints of chocolate, Munich malts, and rye. We also incorporate a spice blend containing ginger, coriander, star anise, grains of paradise, and black pepper… aged for up to 8 months or more in white oak barrels.
Well it certainly is dark, this pours with a dark reddish brown color, a nice little head that fades quickly, some bits of white yeast food floating in my glass. I really love the aroma of this beer, sourness, cherries and raisins on the nose. The blend of spices is clearly doing it’s job in the aroma, blending together to make a fantastic generic spice. The taste is very sour with lots of vinegar mixing with some tart cherry pie filling and sweet and sour children’s candy! I can’t say that I ever got much in the way of oak barrel, but this is still a very complex sour ale without it!
This will be too sour for some, but I thought it was outstanding!
