Coppertail Brewing Unholy Tripel
Coppertail Brewing Unholy Tripel comes in at a solidĀ 9% ABV.
The pour on this has a bit too many yeast floaties to be be considered great, but I do like the pure golden color. The aroma has a lot of clove and a good bit of what smells like cinnamon to me which is a bit of a surprise. The taste is throwing me for a loop as well, this is a strange combination of Belgian Tripel and American DIPA! The yeast comes on strong at first, spicy and fruity. The maltĀ is sweet with a caramel tone that reminds me of a sweeter DIPA. The hop profile is strong with this as well, very tropical with some orange and mango, hints of grapefruit and papaya coming out in this beer. Sitting just behind all of this is subtle notes of banana and bubble gum you might expect from a traditional Tripel.
I have to say this beer has grown on me with each sip like maybe no other. I am not a huge Tripel fan, and this is by no means a traditional Tripel, but I do like how the American elements play into this.
