De Dochter van de Korenaar Embrasse
De Dochter van de Korenaar Embrasse is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, 9% ABV. This beer comes wrapped in brown paper with an info card stapled to it. The paper is taped together in the back by scotch tape. If this isn’t hand packaged they do a fine job making it look like it is!
The beer pours with an extremely dark red color with just the slightest bit of light coming through. A nice bit of off white head to start but is fades nearly all the way to nothing. Not a huge aroma, but I like what is there. I’m smelling some raisin and figs and a good bit of Belgian yeast. The taste is quite nice. A huge helping of dark fruits and Belgian candi sweetness. Sweet cherries, raisins, figs, grape jelly, mild caramel, molasses and earthy tobacco leaf. There is an almost smoked malt quality to this along with some unexpected spiciness similar to rye. I’m guessing that spice is from the hops? That sweet grape jelly flavor takes over the finish and aftertaste. Complex is an understatement with this beer.
I am liking thisĀ a lot, HUGE thanks to Kevin for the bottle. This is probably not the kind of beer I would have reached for myself, but it is fantastic!
