Fullsteam First Frost – Brandy Barrel Aged
Fullsteam First Frost – Brandy Barrel Aged is a Winter Warmer brewed with foraged persimmons and aged in brandy barrels, 10% ABV. This review is for the 2014 vintage, thanks for the bottle Ben!
The beer pours with a slightly cloudy amber/brown color highlighted with some slight red hues. The head was minimal and was just about gone in seconds. Getting a lot of sweet raisins and figs soaked in sweet brandy on the nose. This is an extremely sweet winter sipper with strong notes of sweet persimmons, cherries, figs, a dash of cinnamon and hop bitterness, sweet brandy, and a slight bit of alcohol on the finish that slowly increases as the beer warms. A lack of carbonation is making this feel a bit too slick, it could use a few more bubbles to help balance out the sweetness.
A true sipper here, I usually drink my beer pretty quickly but I can see this bottle lasting quite a while.
