Lanikai Moku Imperial IPA

Lanikai Moku is an American Double/Imperial IPA, 8.1% ABV. Thanks to Jeff for sending this all the way from Hawaii for us to review!

This is a pretty looking beer, nice golden orange color with a good white head. The aroma is a bit malt forward, smelling a lot of caramel that borders on buttered toffee, hints of pine and citrus lingers in the background. I like the taste profile of this though, can’t say I have an Imperial IPA in mind to compare it to. Tasting over-ripe mango, strong stinging pine, bitter grapefruit, a touch of caramel malt and a fairly big dollop of alcohol flavor. This is a big beer that is drinking even bigger than the high 8.1% would indicate.

I feel pretty lucky to have gotten the chance to try this and the Pillbox Porter, good things coming out of Lanikai.
