New Belgium Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale
New Belgium Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale is a collaboration with Ben & Jerry’s, an ice cream company you might have heard of. (And yes, there is an ice cream as well!) This American Brown Ale comes in at 6.25% ABV.
The beer pours with a nice dark brown color, a bit of light shinning though the edges with a caramel cola color. Excellent head, fluffy and tan, it is really hanging in there. The aroma is really the highlight of this, big rich chocolate, subtle caramel… it does smell a lot like a caramel swirled brownie! The taste starts down the same path with some dense brownie batter chocolate. Not a whole lot else going on really, and just as I think this is a one note beer there is what I have to guess is the “salted” portion right at the finish. The flavor that comes through wants to be salted caramel at first, but it simply misses the mark and it comes off as a bit of an “off” flavor. I do love the mouth-feel of this, it is velvety and smooth and that plays well with all of that rich chocolate.
All things considered I’m glad I picked up a bottle, it ended up being a nice little dessert beer for a Monday night!
