Oskar Blues Death By Coconut
Oskar Blues Death By Coconut is an English style Porter, 6.5% ABV. They actually call this an Irish Porter on the can, but I have no idea what that means, or why coconut is involved in anything from Ireland. If anyone can explain, please let me know.
This porter pours with an excellent dark, dark brown color and tan head. The aroma is strong with oily coconut, much like the tanning oils I remember being popular as a child years ago. The taste brings in an excellent balance of chocolate and fresh coconut, sweet but not too sweet. A slight burst of hops brings a touch of bitter to the finish. I’d love for this to be a bit thicker and sweeter overall, but in some ways it’s simplicity is what makes it so easy to drink.
This isn’t a complex beer, and I have had richer and more exciting coconut chocolate ales, but I am finding this more and more engaging with each sip.
