Schlafly Grapefruit IPA
Schlafly Grapefruit IPA is brewed with fresh grapefruit purée and Citra and Simcoe hops, 5% ABV. Bottled on 12/17/15, opened on 01/17/16. Bottle sent for review.
I noticed some considerable sediment in the bottom of the bottle so I chose to pour gently into my glass. The result is a moderately hazy beer containing a mild amount of floaters and a weak head that is mostly gone within a minute or two. The aroma is pleasant with a good amount of tart grapefruit, sweet grain and bright citra hops. A solid flavor profile with the hops and fresh grapefruit coming straight to the forefront. A bit of dry cracker malt comes through, but balance is not a highlight of this beer. Although mighty tasty I could not consider this a complex IPA.
Ballast point has set the bar pretty high with Grapefruit Sculpin, but this is certainly a solid alternative to that beer.
