The beer pours with a nice rich amber color and a good looking off white head to start. The head hangs in there for about 5 minutes before settling to a paper thin layer. The aroma is sweet and malty with a dominate caramel note. A touch of sweet orange peel on the nose as well, but nothing for a big hop head to get too jazzed about. My first reaction to the taste is sweet bread and spruce pine. There is a hint of an almost medicinal mint flavor that sneaks into the second sip. The finish brings a nice bit of flavorful grapefruit and lemon, and a fairly strong bitterness.
I’m not sure there is quite enough here for this to stand out in the jam packed IPA crowd, but the more I drank this one the more I liked it.
