Terrapin Poivre Potion (Side Project Vol. 26)
Terrapin Poivre Potion (Side Project Vol. 26) is the 2015 employee created beer, it is a Dry Hopped Imperial Pink Peppercorn Saison, 9.3% ABV.
This pours with a surprisingly clear yellow color with a bit of an orange tint, good white head that retains fairly well. The aroma is rather fruity with a lot of pineapple and other generic tropical fruits, maybe the slightest bit of peppercorn but that might just be power of suggestion. The taste has some of the sweetness of the aroma but is is much more muted, an unfortunate almost medicinal note is present that I am assuming is coming form the pink peppercorn and/or the high ABV. I’m enjoying a nice hint of bitter grapefruit on the end as well.
This beer is really drinking more like a Belgian IPA or Pale Ale than a Saison to me, I have to wonder if my impression of this would be different if I went in expecting a different style.
