Left Hand Sawtooth Ale
Left Hand Sawtooth Ale is an Extra Special Bitters, 5.3% ABV. Whew, looks like I got to this bottle just in time, it has a best by date of 4/2/16, opened on 3/29/16.
A vigorous pour created a fairly decent head on top of a deep caramel colored beer, some lovely orange highlights are seen when the glass is held to the light. This has a solid aroma with a ton of toasted bread malts, and a little sweet caramel as well. Tea. This malt profile tastes like a mixture of caramel malt and un-sweet iced tea. This is complimented by some mild citrus hops that are kind of lemony (which does go good with iced tea!) and softly bitter. Nothing over powering, a good balance of flavor is the key to this interesting and refreshing beer.
Maybe not your typical ESB, but his is really quite pleasant to drink. Another in the long list of beers I need to remember to enjoy a little more often.
