Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout – Sumatra Wahana Natural
Once again Terrapin has teamed up with Jittery Joe’s coffee, but this time it is a brilliant and ambitious endeavor. The Single Origin Series gives you the chance to experience distinct single origin coffees from around the world each brewed with the same base stout. These stouts were sold in a mixed 4 pack with one of each stout included. Although I certainly need a cup in the morning, I am not what you might call a coffee nerd and know next to nothing about these coffee varieties. So I am taking this on in totally random fashion.
Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Stout – Sumatra Wahana Natural pours with a big dark brown color, about as close to black as it can get. The tan head was quick to vacate, leaving behind a slight ring around the edge of the glass. Yup, this smells like coffee… a bit sweet, nutty and creamy with a hint of cinnamon. The coffee taste is strong with an acidic and bitter bite. I’m getting notes of cocoa and nuts along with a hint of fruity tartness and a little bit of the cinnamon in the taste. I really like the feel of this beer, it has just enough body to make this 5.7% ABV stout not feel too thin.
The aroma is outstanding, and although it took a few sips, the coffee flavor grew on me quite a bit.
