Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale
Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale is an American Double/Imperial Stout, 11.5% ABV. I’m sure the name of this beer has some kind of marijuana reference, but I don’t really care much about that. Whatever it is I’m just not hip enough.
The beer itself pours with a beautiful golden color with some rich orange highlights and a nice big white head. The aroma is crazy intense with huge notes of pine, orange, mango, pineapple… it’s a tropical fruit salad. Amazing. The taste is quite frankly intense as well with huge flavors of big caramel malt, sticky pine, sweet tropical fruits, bitter grapefruit, and more pine that leads to a lingering resinous pine finish. The bitterness fairly high on the backend of the taste which works well with all the sweetness this DIPA brings. If there is a downside to this beer it is the fact that this is 100% alcohol soaked from beginning to end. Maybe a bit too boozy, but I think that is an inevitable side effect of a beer this big.
If you are a hophead in search of another big hoppy brew… Surprise, Surprise, Lagunitas delivers yet again!
