Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle
Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle is an American IPA, canned on 05/17/16, opened on 06/13/16, no ABV on the can.
This beer pours with pretty crystal clear golden orange color and a hint of lemon yellow as well, the head is a big and fluffy white. The hops on the aroma have a little resinous pine and a general mustiness, more subtle notes of tropical fruit linger in the background. The taste starts with a surprising dry cracker malt and some musty yeast. I’m looking for some distinct fruity or pine hop flavors, but they are not forthcoming. This is not to say there is no hop character, it comes out with some mild bitterness and some earthy hop notes, maybe just a hint of grapefruit.
I’m sure this is probably a local Austin favorite, but the disconnect between the aroma and taste is a bit off a turn off for me. I’d happily knock back a few more of these, but I can’t say I’ll be on the look out for more either.
