Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across America 2016 – Moxee-Moron Imperial Session IPA
The 2016 version of the Beer Camp Across America 12 pack is a bit different than last year. Last year they released 12 different beers that were collaborations with 12 different breweries. This year’s box contains 2 bottles of 6 different beers, each beer was a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and 5 other breweries.
Sierra Nevada Moxee-Moron is an American IPA. A celebration of Moxie Wa., located in the heart of Yakima Valley, this beer is brewed with hops in the mash, kettle, “Hop Torpedo” and fermenter, 7.5% ABV. This beer is brewed in collaboration with Bale Breaker, Barley Brown’s Beer, Black Raven, Melvin Brewing, and Odell.
This lovely looking beer pours with a perfect golden color with some wonderful orange and red highlights. The head is white and fluffy with some fantastic retention and lacing. The aroma contains a ton of sweet mango, a hint of passion fruit and citrus, along with strong notes of pine. Given the aroma I am rather surprised by the taste, but it is a delicious surprise. The potent hop flavors first strike me as extremely floral before a tasty grapefruit and sweet orange citrus is revealed. Bitter in just the right amount, and I am getting enough malt sweetness to keep this close enough to balanced.
I still have a few more to go through, but this has been my favorite beer from the 2016 Beer Camp thus far.
