Evil Twin Imperial Simcoe Slacker
Evil Twin Imperial Simcoe Slacker is an American IPA, 7.5% ABV. No canning date, but the bottom of the can does let me know this is batch number one! All sarcasm aside, a quick search of the internet confirms this can is likely pretty damn fresh.
Pours with a mostly clear straw yellow color but there is some fine particulates floating about in the glass, well except for that one big chunk in there. Straw yellow is actually a bit harsh, there is a good bitĀ of amber/gold depending on how the light comes through the glass. The aroma is hoppy, almost generically so… a little citrus, a little floral, a hint of pine…The taste has a bit more balance thanks to some big dry cracker malt. The hops (one has to presume Simcoe, yes?) are the star of this show. A classic Simcoe woody earthiness is complimented by some pine, grapefruit, and a hint of sweeter tropical fruit. A great feature of this beer is a dry bitter finish that also has some lingering grapefruit flavor. That finish is making it so hard to not drink this one too fast!
I can’t say this last second addition to my cart on a recent trip to Atlanta is the best IPA I’ve ever had… but I’m sure glad I grabbed one!
