Monday Night Brewing Georgian Imperial
Monday Night Brewing Georgian Imperial is a Russian Imperial Stout brewed with hazelnuts, 11% ABV. I always like to see breweries having fun, this is from the bottle and website: If a Russian Imperial Stout is a big stout brewed for Russia, what is a big stout brewed with hazelnuts imported from Georgia, a country bordering Russia? We maintain that it should be called a Georgian Imperial Stout. So now that’s a thing.
This big boy beer pours with a near pitch black color, and a nice dark tan head that lingers and settles to a good looking layer on top of the beer. Really wonderful aroma going on here; notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts (with a nod to the hazelnuts used), hints of caramel, and maybe just a little molasses. I have to say that I am rather impressed with the taste as well, this is pretty much spot on for the style. I’m getting a good bit of sweet dark chocolate and hazelnuts which is much more distinct in the taste than the aroma. A little black licorice, molasses, roasted malts, a touch of vanilla cream, and a totally appropriate amount of alcohol heat. The finish brings a really nice dry and bitter hop adding some excellent balance to combat the sugary sweetness that lingers. This beer is thick and chewy… oh man this goes down so smooth!
Monday Night has put out several beers I have really enjoyed, and maybe it’s the 11% ABV talking, but I think this is the best beer I’ve had out of this brewery yet! Seek this one out.
