Avery Liliko’i Kepolo
Avery Liliko’i Kepolo is a Witbier brewed with passionfruit, 5.4% ABV. Canned on 5/26/16, opened on 08/17/16.
This tropical take on a Belgian-style Wit pours with a perfectly hazy yellow color. (This picture makes this beer look much more golden that it is) The head is pure white and impressive with some serious retention. Wow, there are not kidding about the passionfruit; a ton of it’s sweet, yet tart, tropical aroma is the first thing to greet my nose. I can’t saying that I am getting much in the way of typical Belgian Wit spices on the nose, but what is there has me eager to taste this… I was a bit skeptical at first that these flavors would meld together as well as this. The Wit finally makes an appearance in something other than the look. The initial part of the taste is soft but sweet wheat, a touch of coriander and some sweet orange peel. A solid enough Wit for me right there, but then the passion fruit quickly followed behind and makes this simply outstanding. The flavor perfectly flows from the citrus to the sweet flesh of the passionfruit before it finds a little tartness on the finish. The tartness works to help balance all the sweetness in the beer, and makes me want another sip almost immediately.
I rarely consider buying a Wheat Beer by the six pack, but I am seriously considering heading back to the store after work tomorrow to load up on this little gem!
