Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood
Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood is an American IPA brewed with orange peel, lemon flesh and blood orange juice, 7.5% ABV. Bottled on 06/24/16, opened on 07/17/16. Bottle provided for review.
The beer pours with a clear golden copper color with some nice orange highlights, while the head is a solid off white with decent lacing. Maybe a bit more pine and earthiness on the nose than I was expecting, but there is certainly enough juicy citrus there to justify the name of the beer. Notes of grapefruit and orange are a nice addition to the aroma. As far as the taste goes this is absolutely a fruit forward IPA. The taste brings in a considerable amount of the lemon flesh and orange citrus from the peels and juice. Even with all that fruit this is a fairly well balanced IPA with a good mix of sweet fruit, malt, and hop bitterness.
This is a beer I will come back to again. With so many “fruit added” IPA’s out there all of a sudden, this is one that feels genuine to me.
