Green Flash Sea To Sea Lager
Green Flash Sea To Sea Lager is a Zwickelbier, 4% ABV. Best by date of 10/30/16, opened on 8/6/16. This may very well be my first experience with this style of unfiltered German Lager. I’m not sure if they fermented this in the traditional unbunged manner, but it certainly is loaded with German hops and malts.
The beer pours with a slightly cloudy yellowish gold color, and has a tremendous white head with outstanding retention. I’m getting a nice amount of the grain bill on the nose that is complimented by some grassy hops. There is also a slight bit of a Gose like saltiness on the nose, although there is no indication salt was ever used in the brewing process. Dry with a good amount of bitterness on the taste. The hops are providing solid floral/herbal qualities, some lemon, and a big spicy punch. The malt bill is doing it’s job, but isn’t really adding a ton to the overall drinking experience.
There are Lagers out there I prefer, but I like this beer. It is especially appreciated on another scorching hot and humid day here in Savannah.
