New Belgium + Hof ten Dormaal Golden Ale (Lips Of Faith Series)
New Belgium + Hof ten Dormaal Golden Ale is a Belgian Golden Ale brewed with Mosaic hops, sunflower seeds and wild carrot herb, 7% ABV. Best by date of what looks like 3/12/17. Brewed in collaboration with Hof ten Dormaal. I can’t remember ever seeing the Lips of Faith series in 12oz. bottle four packs before, maybe this is new trend for New Belgium.
This pours with a clear and pale golden color, a nice white head as well with decent retention. I am into the aroma of this, it is sweet with a moderate amount of classic Belgian yeast bubble gum and banana. The biscuit malt on the nose is in no way subtle, and there is a bit of carrot sweetness as well. You won’t be surprised to have me tell you this is also a sweet tasting beer. Sweet malt, some notes of honey, simple sugar and banana is the major make up of the taste profile. It is subtle, but I am tasting just a enough of some much needed spice. Is it the carrot herb? Or sunflower seed? Or both? (Shrug) Hell if I know. I can say for sure that I am detecting no Mosaic hops in this beer. This is drinking more like a Belgian Tripel than a Golden to me.
If you are looking for a sweet Tripel-ish beer with a little bit lower ABV, this is not a bad choice! All joking aside, I though this was a pretty good beer.
