Wild Heaven Wise Blood IPA
Wild Heaven Wise Blood IPA is an American IPA, 6.2% ABV, canned on 07/08/16, opened on 08/18/16. When I first saw this beer around town I figured it was brewed with blood orange, but that apparently isn’t so. I’m also confused as to where the name comes from, and I don’t get the connection to the can art references to neon, religion and “open 24/7”. Well, it’s what’s inside that counts, so we shall proceed…
The beer pours with a slightly hazy golden color and a nice white head that creates some stellar lacing. Earthy, yet somewhat tropical on the nose. If I had to guess I’d say some Mosaic was used to dry hop this IPA. Really earthy and spicy on the palate, that spice is almost black pepper like. There is some sweet caramel malt and tropical fruit in the background fighting to get on the stage, but they never get their solo. Lastly there is a strong amount of bitterness that is leaving a lingering tingle at the back end of the taste. The carbonation feels a good bit too low in this can, at least for my tastes in an IPA.
This is one of those IPA’s that doesn’t exactly hit my personal preferences for the style, but at the same time is really enjoyable thanks to it’s high quality. This occasional pick up for me will be the next guys go-to sixer.
