Cigar City Brewing Outskirts
Cigar City Brewing Outskirts is an Imperial Porter aged in Bourbon Barrels, no ABV listed, bottled on 08/07/16, opened on 10/23/16. I’m pretty sure this 3rd Edition El Catador Club beer was also half of what made up the amazing Decoherence.
This beer pours with an opaque black color and a dark tan head that did fade away rather fast. The aroma is sweet with a little roast and dark chocolate, not much bourbon barrel to speak of… I don’t know, maybe a hint of vanilla. I am getting an odd pungent note that is a little salty, kind of like a sharp parmesan cheese. The taste is a huge improvement from the aroma with flavors of dense fudge, salted caramel, ripe dark fruits, mild smoke and roast, vanilla bean, bourbon and a touch of oak. Oh, and booze. This beer is super hot with a lot of pure alcohol notes in the taste. That got me curious about the ABV and did a little research, it turns out this beer is 14.5%!!! I guess that explains the heat. The beer itself feels slick and not too thick, a good mouth-feel for such a big beer.
Intense and potent, I am going to strongly suggest a drinking partner (or two) to share this monster with.
