Sweetwater Dank Tank Smokey And The Brett
Sweetwater Dank Tank Smokey And The Brett is an American IPA with Brettanomyces added, 7.3% ABV. Sweetwater pokes a little fun at themselves (and a couple of genius thieves) with this Dank Tank story based on their stollen trailer that was full of beer.
This is a beautifully clear beer with a gold and orange color. A decent off white head on top of the beer, but it does fade pretty quick. Oh yeah, there is Brett all over the nose of this beer. The aroma is fruity tart and mildly funky, maybe just a little bit of generic hops as well. This is smelling more like a Sour Ale than an IPA. The taste follows suit rather well. A little dry cracker malt peeks out of the taste right away, but it then disappears into waves of Brett. Tart fruit notes of white grapes, peaches, and kumquats is followed by some mildly sweet orange. An earthy funk with a little barnyard grass and hay brings up the rear. The finish is dry and hoppy in just the right amount.
This is a great display of the capabilities of Brettanomyces while still being fairly drinkable and approachable.
