Boulevard Collaboration #6 – Barrel Aged Blend
Boulevard Collaboration #6 – Barrel Aged Blend is an American Strong Ale, 12.5% ABV, best by date of 09/23/18. Firestone Walker and Boulevard get together and blend two of each of their barrel aged beers to create this massive brew. Boulevard brings 45% Bourbon Barrel Quad and 10% Imperial Stout X – Tart Cherry (whiskey barrel-aged), while Firestone Walker contributes 35% Stickee Monkee and 10% Velvet Merkin.
The beer pours with dark brown and plum red color with a light coffee tan head. The last pour from the bottle does reveal a considerable amount of yeast sediment. My nose is greeted by a collection of rich malt, dark fruit, moderate bourbon and oak, and some notes of chocolate and vanilla. The taste is a near carbon copy of the taste with sweet malt, rich dark fruit, bourbon, vanilla and some nice hints of chocolate. Dry oak mixes with some more sweet bourbon and some strong bozziness on the finish.
I feel like all of these beers are better on their own, but as blended beers go this one is quite well done. Barrel Aged Blend definitely becomes it’s own beer that is worth a try.
