Funky Buddha Strawberry Shortcake
Funky Buddha Strawberry Shortcake is an American Wheatwine brewed with whole strawberries and vanilla beans, 9% ABV. Bottled on 11/15/16, opened on 01/21/17.
The initial pour has a mostly clear peach color with some mild red highlights, and inch tall off white head that settles to slight ring. The second pour was much more cloudy and has some serious sediment floating in the beer. The aroma of this beer isn’t massive, but once again I’ll be damned if Funky Buddha doesn’t pull off another aroma miracle. This really does smell a lot like fresh strawberry shortcake topped with fresh cream. Notes of vanilla is followed by fresh strawberry and a sweet bready malt that emulates pound cake. The taste is pleasant, but this is miles from tasting like strawberry shortcake. The tartness of the fresh strawberries leads things off and is followed by the vanilla. The tartness of the strawberries seems to overtake the sweetness I prefer in some of my favorite Wheatwines.
Not an overly complex beer on the palate, but this was rather enjoyable overall. I haven’t come across a Funky Buddha beer that isn’t worth a try yet.
